Celebratory Services

As well as Civil Weddings and Civil Partnerships, City of York Registration and Celebratory Service is pleased to be able to offer the following ceremonies:

Renewal of Marriage Vows

This ceremony is for married couples who wish to celebrate their marriage in a unique and personal ceremony. It is common for a renewal of vows to be associated with a special anniversary but it can take place at any stage of marriage. Often couples who have married abroad choose to renew their vows to celebrate their union with family and friends or couples who have been through a period which has put strain on their relationship may choose the ceremony to celebrate their renewed devotion to one another. The content and format of the ceremony is tailored to suit each individual couple.

Citizenship Ceremonies

Citizenship ceremonies are a vital part of the process of becoming a British Citizen. The ceremonies are a positive way of welcoming new citizens into the community and may be held in any venue approved by the local authority. Groups of up to 20 applicants will take part in ceremonies, with an allowance of limited guests. However, there will be a facility for individual ceremonies at a registration office or approved venue, at an enhanced fee. Ceremonies are usually held in the district of residence, however, if requested arrangements can be made for them to take place elsewhere.

Ceremonies are concluded with a graduation style presentation of a certificate and photographic opportunity. Each new citizen will receive a commemorative medal.
